Fewture is an original Sci-Fi AR/VR experience, immersing the user in possible variations of the future. Each variation is envisioning a speculative reality based on our world’s current condition. While Fewture variation #1 – Glitter Shores – suggested a flooded world with humanity residing on islands made of glitter and plastic debris, Fewture variation #2 – Server Farm Penthouses – pictures a world designed and governed by Artificial Intelligence. Ranging between utopia and dystopia, Fewture’s scenarios are optimistic in tone and follow personal narratives of female protagonists. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9XtLjogMIU About the scenes Fewture variation 2 happens in a dystopian city in…
A physical browser add on that notifies the internet user when their security is being compromised. A critical object designed by Nick Tanic and Alizarin Waissberg Regardless of their cute name, cookies are possibly the worst thing about web browsing. Cookies are basically a spyware, inspecting the user’s online actions. Cookies are commonly used to collect information about the pages the user views and their activities on the site and deliver ads targeted to them. Cookies are the cute little snippet that makes web browser do creepy things. While some major websites comply with the EU law and notify the…
Delicious yet disgusting, aesthetic yet contaminated, Glitter Fish is a delicates dish by chefs Yunze Shi and Alizarin Zroob. Glitter Fish is an experiment in delivering a meaningful ecological idea incorporating our viewers entire array of senses. https://youtu.be/ogwLGw23XJs Looking desirable and mouthwatering from first glance, the Glitter Fish Filet Dish is not edible. Yes, there’s a real fish filet in there. Unfortunately it is garnished with so much plastic particles making it poisonous. Glitter Fish aims to illustrate a catchy, critical statement on man-caused ocean pollution. Human activity has led to microplastic contamination throughout the marine environment. As a result…

A dunk tank to drown the most vulnerable members of society Starting the Critical Objects class, I grouped with Cara Neel and Veronica Alfaro to tackle a subject that’s unnecessarily controversial: vaccine. Background Vaccines have been researched and proven highly effective in preventing illness. Major medical organizations state vaccines are very safe. These organizations include: CDC, Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Institute of Medicine (IOM), American Medical Association (AMA), American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), UNICEF, US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), World Health Organization (WHO), Public Health Agency of Canada, Canadian Paediatric Society, National Foundation for Infectious Diseases…
Recreating fire-spinning using electronics Spacetime Poi is Alizarin Waissberg’s final project at physical computing course with Tom Igoe at ITP. Spacetime Poi has all the necessary features for a fun, playful experience. It’s surprisingly sturdy, soft, and has long battery life. Accurate gyroscope readings from a sensor mounted to the poi control light patterns simulating fire. Besides the electronic parts, It’s made of unconventional, recycled and/or affordable materials. WiFi network sends mechanic data from within one of the poi to any computer that logs into it. Spacetime poi has proven itself as entertaining in multiple environments. Nonetheless, the current version…
A purely pacifist, violently upbeat explosion of radically positive audiovisual particles Explode a Peace Bomb now! (Warning: loud) Full Screen Peace Bomb The making of Peace Bomb Throughout the semester we’ve learned the basic concepts of writing code for creative purposes. This day and age, the coding language used was JavaScript and it’s handy p5.js library. Honestly, after being spoiled my entire life with convenient interfaces of photo, video and web editing programs, coding an audiovisual experience from scratch was daunting. That’s why I chose to tackle the simplest, most straightforward concept I could come up with: a one-click interaction,…
Spacetime Poi is a final project at physical computing course with Tom Igoe at ITP. Following the final project proposition, a 2nd post describing the work process, defining concept, figuring out electronic components and crafting a unique case. Inspired by Fire Prior to actually making the spacetime Poi, I’ve had the chance to user-test with a regular set of poi – a pair of balls on strings, which led to some helpful insights. One of the testers who’ve seen poi before in their natural habitat, asked “are you going to light them on fire?!” “If everything goes according to plan,…
Intro to Physical Computing Final Project Proposition: a Playful Performance Art Instrument Recap Following the class presentation of our midterm project Albino Bat, final tweaks to the code were made. A smooth but quick fade was assigned to the light-up wings, depending on the magnetic field rather than the facing (angle) of the stick. In practicality, this fine-tuning has turned the Albino Bat into a delightful interface. After a very short learning period, I figured out and got used to the precise hand gestures turning the wings on and off. I became so in tune with this cyborg extension of…
If there’s something that the world is in need of, is some good news. Peace Bomb is an interactive experience aimed to cheer the world up with an explosion of positivity Background In my background lie almost unbearable amounts of terror. Being born just in time to see the miserable decay of world’s largest empire of all times, USSR, it was determined upon me to look for a brighter future in middle-east’s trendiest war zone, Israel. Religiously-biased education, racist government and mandatory army service failed to exterminate my inner peace. Taking the best from every life lesson, I’m excited for…
