If there’s something that the world is in need of, is some good news. Peace Bomb is an interactive experience aimed to cheer the world up with an explosion of positivity
Background
In my background lie almost unbearable amounts of terror. Being born just in time to see the miserable decay of world’s largest empire of all times, USSR, it was determined upon me to look for a brighter future in middle-east’s trendiest war zone, Israel. Religiously-biased education, racist government and mandatory army service failed to exterminate my inner peace. Taking the best from every life lesson, I’m excited for to propose a creative programming project aimed to spread tranquility.
Israeli upbringing have given me the honor and pleasure to read Yuval Noah Harari‘s books in their original language: Hebrew. I found it delightfully ironic, to have such logical, scientifically accurate, as far from religious as possible texts written using the language of the holy bible. Maybe Israeli writers feel obligated to compensate over that unfortunate piece of harmful literature that cased so much bloodshed throughout history. Additional Israeli publicists/speakers I could recommend are Behavioral Economist Dan Arieli And Foresight Expert Dr. Roey Tzezana.
One of the issues discussed by these publicists, is our inherently negative state of mind. It’s a matter of survival: we’re irrationally tuned to see the danger in our surroundings. With mass media in the mix, it’s becoming impossible to maintain any hope in this world. In the pursuit of selling us psychiatric medicine, the media formats its content in a way that’s making us mentally ill. Have worked designing Israel’s most widespread publication, I’ve been a part of the apparatus: enlarging dramatic titles until they fill the entire page, drenching paper in irresponsible amounts red ink. No more of that, however that training will assist me in creating the most effective peace bomb.
Concept
Peace bomb is a simple, one-click interactive experience. Instant and surprising, lasting not longer than 30 seconds, the aftershock of Peace Bomb shall shake you to the core long after leaving the scene. Loaded with invasive audio, armed with visual shrapnels, the target of the Peace Bomb is to violently bring you joy. Most importantly, each explosion will generate a new, random In-your-face graphic visualization of truly encouraging data. The good news don’t get to the headlines because they don’t sell the magazine, but they’re out there. Data shows there has been a dramatic incline in war deaths since mid-20th century. We’re also continuing to see the almost-complete extinction of inter-state war. Literacy is rising and some deadly diseases are on the decline globally. The number of countries in which homosexuality is illegal has dropped by half since 1960. And so on. The challenge is to find or create the relevant data to be visualized in the most compelling, readable and gladdening way.
Here’s the most detailed plan of the Peace Bomb I have so far.
Components
- Physical installation
Peace Bomb is without a doubt an art piece. Hence it shall be installed in a quiet, clean, dark environment, so the bomb can efficiently splash it’s content on the surroundings.
Ideally, once the computing is complete, I’m envisioning a one-switch mechanism, and presentation via projection mapping.
- Mindblowing Data visualization
If there’s something that can change minds, it’s data. I’m aiming to look for an API source of positive data that’s simple to grab and easy to illustrate
- Explosive Audio
Surprising, obnoxiously loud burst of hope and joy
- Explosive visuals
Animated blast scattering the contents of the peace-bomb upon our surroundings via projection
- Delay
A delay mechanism between explosions, making them scarce
