Femininity themed immersive environment by AlizarinZ
- Using light art and unexplored forms of visual interactivity to invite a performative ceremony celebrating the cerebral aspects of femininity
- Encrypted figurative art to be explored and revealed with uniquely designed light sources and sound reactive projection
- Additional layer of information and interaction is revealed via a simple web interface + QR codes
- The visuals are inspired by women inventors who shaped today’s technology and science
following up the previous synesthesia light art, I’m devoted to extend my cryptic, sound and blacklight-reactive style into an entire immersive and interactive experience.
The upcoming iteration of Sacred Temple of Cerebral Femininity is an enhanced, optimized version of this documented version, presented at ITP on October 2019.
As you can see, the appearance of the environment changes completely in different lighting conditions. Using different types of materials and different wavelengths of light, reveals different aspects of each painting.
Some of the most figurative aspects of the environment, are actually revealed only in complete darkness.
The Power To Stop the Light
The current centerpiece of this work is inspired by the inventions of physicist Lene Hau, who was the first human to stop a beam of light completely. Her inventions were instrumental in forming the technology of quantum encryption. The image itself as well as the technique represent these ideas – being almost invisible in daylight.
Making of this centerpiece involved covering a canvas in a particular shade of white, designing vector stencils for a laser printer, and spraying with glow-in-the-dark spray.

Future Temple – Center Throne
The new version puts the viewer in the middle, and turns them into an active participant, if not a performer. They’re invited to interact with the environment in several ways:
- Browse the environment with their phones and discover hidden layers of info and interaction
- Pick up the pulsing lamp and view themselves and the artwork in a new light
- Place their phones in the holder above the center mirror, and allow themselves to self-center and reflect on their divine feminine side, while they’re sitting on a throne
The Meaning of Cerebral Femininity
The essence of cerebral femininity as I see it, is the ability to conceive, birth and nurture ideas. It has nothing to do with one’s sex, sexual preference nor precieved gender. As an artist and a parent, I’m fascinated with the similarities between birthing a kid and an idea. While a kid can outlive you and carry on your genetic legacy for one generation, possibly further, a good idea can change the world, immortalize you and carry on your legacy for as long as human civilization exists. While mammal life usually need a fertile female body to form, ideas need a fertile brain, or at least some sort of electronic communication system to emerge. The motivation, devotion and intellect necessary to cultivate world-shaping ideas seems to me highly feminine and nurturing. It’s my honor and pleasure to elevate and celebrate it, in means of light, matter, metaphor, narrative and spiritual ceremony.
Birth Canal of Ideas
Sacred Temple of Cerebral Femininity is an environment built to stimulate the participant’s most important sexual organ: their brain. The throne represents the nerve center where concepts emerge. The participant is invited to sit and be immersed in the fantastic setup where they get to see themselves in a new light. The goal is to inspire newfound recognition to one’s feminine side: it’s beauty, it’s power, and mostly – it’s intellect.
A soft, fuzzy, light-diffusing screen behind the throne creates a kitschy backdrop for flattering, eye-catching glamorous instagram posts.
But besides being a shallow instagram trap, the throne is a place for authentic empowerment. It is designed to spark a euphorically positive state of self-compassion, self-admiration and boundless, nurturing creativity.
